- Head of Department of Medical Physics and Expert Systems, St. Orsola University Hospital and Research Center, Bologna. 

- Former Head, Laboratory of Medical Physics and Expert Systems, IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute (IRE‑IFO), Rome. 

- Associate Professor, Medical Physics Post‑graduate Specialization School, University of “Tor Vergata”, Rome. 

- Associate Professor, Medical Physics, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Specialization School, University of Bologna. 

 

Scientific Expertise:

- Medical Physics in Oncology. 

- Dosimetry and radiobiological models. 

- Multiple radiation treatment modalities, including hadron‑therapy and stereotactic radiotherapy. 

- Systemic therapy and related diagnostic procedures. 

 

Methodological Expertise:

- Design and conduct of phase II and III clinical trials on moderate hypofractionation and dose escalation for prostate and breast cancer. 

- Development and validation of advanced radiobiological and dosimetric models. 

 

 Research Activities

 

Main Research Areas:

1. Advanced Dosimetry and Radiobiology

   - Dose optimisation in radiation therapy. 

 

2. Clinical Trials in Radiotherapy

   - Moderate hypofractionation and dose‑escalation strategies in solid tumours. 

 

3. Expert Systems and Technological Innovation

   - Decision‑support expert systems for clinical practice in medical physics. 

 

- Principal investigator of several international and national projects with major research centres and institutions (Ministry of Health, AIRC, INAIL, Lazio Region, NATO). 

 

 Patents / Clinical Trials:

- Two patents: PCT/IT2014/000147, PCT/IB2016/052002. 

- PI in phase II and III clinical trials on moderate hypofractionation and dose escalation. 

- Member of the dosimetry committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine as radiobiology expert. 

- Member of the EANM Radiobiology Working Group and ICRU Report Committee 31 (“Treatment Planning for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy”). 

 

- More than 340 papers in indexed peer‑reviewed journals, several book chapters; H-index = 44.
