Thesis title: The transformation of the cores the Asian metropolis of Chongqing
This study explores the evolution of urban morphology in Chongqing’s central district over the past century, analyzing the factors that have shaped its development, with a particular emphasis on the influence of political dynamics. By employing collage techniques, the research aims to uncover the intricate urban morphological landscape of Chongqing’s central area and utilizes montage methods to envision potential future scenarios. Moreover, in the author’s study of urban research and design history in Italy, the collage technique reflected in Aldo Rossi’s The Analogous City and the collage methods presented by Colin Rowe in the Roma Interrotta exhibition both illustrate the two modernist masters’ exploration of urban interpretation. Therefore, this study also attempts to apply collage and montage techniques in the renewal design of selected central areas in Chongqing.
