Research: The Italian Development Cooperation in Africa compared to the XXI Century Global Trends and the European Geo-political Framework

She is currently working as a PhD student on a research project regarding the Italian Development Cooperation in the African continent, more in particular in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim is to analyse the evolving perspectives of Italian cooperation evoking the historical background and projecting it nowadays in the current geopolitical scenario. In addition to that, the global challenges that Europe is facing towards African development will be the pillars of a multi-dimensional analysis aimed at redefining the prevailing paradigms on the topic.
By pointing out the values and critical issues of Italian cooperation, this research wants to underline the potentiality of the Italian approach and, at the same time, to raise some questions over its feasibility in the Sub-Saharan region. To do so it is necessary to replace the initial historicist methodological approach with a socioeconomic impact assessment, that will lead us to understand what are the impacts of development cooperation on African societies.
