GRANTS
Since the beginning of his research activity (2007), Mr. Carbone has been able to obtain funding as Principal Investigator (PI) for over € 889,000.
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY
Since the beginning of his academic career, Prof. Iacopo Carbone has shown a strong aptitude for research with multidisciplinary teams. The main focus of interest of Professor Carbone is cardiovascular imaging with CT and MRI, in which he has published extensively mainly on issues focused on acute ischemic heart disease and cardiomyopathies.
Currently, Professor Carbone is part of a research group comprising cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, internists, pulmonologists, physicians and radiologists in training and researchers. With his research group, Prof. Carbone has obtained numerous grants in recent years, thanks to the achievement of research projects submitted as principal investigators who have raised about half a million euros in funding.
Professor Carbone's scientific research field is also extended to thoracic radiology with a specific focus on the texture analisys of the pulmonary parenchyma, both in fibrosant and emphysematic pathologies, and with techniques of MRI analysis of the pulmonary parenchyma in patients suffering from fibrosing diseases.
The scientific and editorial collaboration of Prof. Carbone benefits from an international network built over the years thanks to the research periods in Canada and Belgium, which allowed him to share research projects and clinical databases with the main cardiac imaging groups of world, such as the center of Leuven in Belgium, Montreal in Canada and Lausanne in Switzerland.
As part of international research and training exchanges, Prof. Carbone has also received numerous fellowships since 2007, both in the context of the ESOR fellowship program and in isolation.
Professor Carbone's main mission is to make his research accessible to everyone and for this reason he has made free applications available for iPhone, iPad, software for ECV mapping and the thoracic radiology book.
TEACHING ACTIVITY
Professor Carbone carries out an intense didactic activity and a service for the students of the Sapienza University of Rome, working for over 350 hours a year. This commitment in degree courses, single-cycle master's degree courses, in specialization schools and in the doctoral course in pathophysiology and vascular cardio-thoracic imaging, is divided into frontal teaching activities, in learning verification activities, in activity of speaker or tutor of the final tests, in activities related to student mobility, in tutoring and orientation activities also at external sites and in the reception of students. From January 28, 2019, Professor Carbone was elected President of the Degree Course in Medical Radiology Techniques, for images and radiotherapy (qualifying for the health profession of Medical Radiology Technician), at the Polo Pontino of Sapienza University, LATINA - Corso Degree Program - ASL Latina (Northern District) L / SNT3 (Code 1052076).
MAIN SEARCH LINES CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS:
- Tissue characterization with MRI in cardiomyopathies.
- T1, T2 and ECV mapping in cardiomyopathies.
- Role of MRI in the diagnosis and prognostic prediction of acute myocarditis.
- Characterization of tissue and functional changes in diabetic cardiomyopathy.
- Pathophysiology of ischemic heart disease and prognostic role of cardiac CT.
- Evaluation of aortic dynamic fluid with 4D-Flow sequences after surgery.
