Phd in DOCUMENTATION STUDIES, LINGUISTICS AND LITERATURE

Giovanni Michetti holds the degrees cum laude in Mathematics and Archival Science, both taken at Sapienza University of Rome, where he taught Contemporary archival science and Information technology applied to archives and libraries for several years. He also taught for a long time at the University of Urbino as well as in the continuing education courses delivered by Scuola superiore della pubblica amministrazione. In 2010 and 2011 he was Visiting Professor at the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (SLAIS), University of British Columbia (Vancouver), where he taught Advanced arrangement and description of archival documents, Advanced records management and Archives and the Web. From 2012 to 2014 he was Assistant Professor of Archival Science at SLAIS. He is currently Associate Professor of Archival Science at Sapienza University of Rome

His research area is focused on contemporary archives, in particular digital archives. His research interests are records management, digital preservation, description models and new technology applied to archives.

He has been involved in several international research initiatives, including ERPANET (Electronic Resource Preservation and Access Network) and CASPAR (Cultural, Artistic and Scientific Knowledge for Preservation, Access and Retrieval), both funded by EU, and InterPARES (International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems), funded by SSHRC. Recently he has been involved in the international project ITrust (Trust and digital records in an increasingly networked society) as Chair of a research area for the Northamerican Team, and leader and member of different research projects.

He works actively in the standardization sector: he is the Chair of the Subcommittee Archives and Records Management and Vice-Chair of the Committee Information and documentation in the Italian organization for standardization (UNI). He represents Italy in different ISO Working Groups on records management.

He has authored essays and articles on scholarly journals and books, the Italian version of EAD (Encoded Archival Description), and the Italian version of the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) Reference Model. He has delivered speeches in national and international conferences and seminars.
