Research Activities

The primary research interests concern the study of geotechnical systems under static and dynamic conditions. Specifically, the research topics deal with slope stability and geotechnical earthquake engineering, with emphases on geotechnical characterization of natural and compacted soils by means of laboratory tests, earthquake reconnaissance, ground motion characterization, seismic response analysis, dynamic analyses of embankment and concrete dams, liquefaction, earthquake-triggered landslides, and microzonation.

He has collaborated and he is currently collaborating with national and international research groups on different topics in the field of soil dynamics, site response analysis and reconnaissance activities following seismic events.

The Project was funded by the Italian Government within the Agreement between “Commissario Straordinario del Governo for the Reconstruction” and National Center for Seismic Microzonation. The Research Project concerns the coordination of the laboratory testing activities carried out by different research units for the experimental determination of cyclic properties of soils, the support to draft microzonation studies and the execution of 2D seismic response analyses of several municipalities within the area hit by the earthquake sequence.
