Research: Women and narratives. Educational approaches to build peaceful futures.

Giorgia Di Giovanni is a PhD candidate in Peace Studies, affiliated with curriculum 4 "Education and Peace" at the University of Rome "La Sapienza." She is currently involved in a project under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) titled "Women and Narratives: Educational Approaches to Build Futures of Peace." Her work focuses on the empowerment of refugee women in Italy who come from war-torn contexts. The project, in line with DM 629/2024, explores the use of autobiography as a narrative tool for personal empowerment, highlighting how refugee women can use storytelling to strengthen their identity and autonomy. Adopting a qualitative and participatory approach, the research aims to analyze the autobiographical narratives of these women, with particular attention to the educational practices developed in reception communities. The goal is to examine how autobiographical narrative devices can serve as mediators of emancipation, fostering the social and personal transformation of the participants. The research will involve mapping the educational communities for refugee women across the country to identify the most suitable and relevant contexts for the investigation.
