Research:
In 2016 Gian Marco Russo obtained a master’s degree in Art History from the University of Bologna, with a thesis titled “Il culto del decorum: la rappresentazione delle passioni nell’arte dell’âge classique” (supervisor: Lucia Corrain, co-supervisor: Bruna Conconi).
In 2018 he enrolled in the Specialisation School for Historic and Artistic Heritage at the aforementioned university, graduating cum laude in 2020 with a thesis titled “Francesco Celebrano (1729-1814) e l’ultima stagione della scultura barocca a Napoli” (supervisor: Andrea Bacchi). During the specialisation years he undertook an internship at the Gallerie Estensi in Modena (2019) and participated in the writing of the volume "Di non vulgare artifizio. Il collezionismo storico della ceramica a Bologna e le raccolte dei Musei Civici di Arte Antica" (edited by S. Battistini, S. Costa et al., Bologna, 2020), focusing on private collecting of Medieval and Early Modern ceramics in late nineteenth-century Italy.
He is currently enrolled in the History of Art PhD programme at the Sapienza University of Rome, with a project titled “Antonio Zucchi (1726-1795): un pittore veneziano del XVIII secolo tra Italia e Inghilterra”.
