Thesis title: Essays in environmental economics and climate justice

The economic and socio-political consequences of the green transition are critical for designing and implementing climate mitigation policies. This dissertation investigates how the disproportionate costs and benefits of the green transition are distributed across different populations, with a focus on socio-economic characteristics, occupational exposure, and vulnerabilities to energy poverty. It is divided into two main sections. The first section (Chapters 1 and 2) presents findings from post-evaluation studies regarding inequality and the distributional impacts of climate mitigation policies (Chapter 1). It also explores how public acceptance of environmental policies is influenced by both the design of these policies and individuals' characteristics, including occupational status (Chapter 2). The second section (Chapter 3) outlines the methodology used to construct a new dataset that analyzes the redistributive effects of recent energy price increases on households. It also discusses the implications of energy poverty and the mitigation measures introduced by the Italian government in 2021
