Thesis title: Bioeconomia Forestale, nuovi paradigmi per città ecosostenibili: le BioCities

The loss of biodiversity is one of the main issues affecting our planet and is at the core of various political agendas of institutions. We are experiencing a true emergency that impacts aspects such as the morphology of cities, functional aspects related to the interaction between cities and their surrounding territories, as well as economic and social dimensions. The environmental issue is of fundamental importance as nature forcefully reclaims its role in urban areas, asserting its place in evolutionary processes. The goal is to preserve and enhance the landscape and environment through solutions that promote the reuse and transformation of existing spaces. In this context, urban forestry and “nature-based solutions” play a crucial role in mitigating the effects of climate change by improving air quality, water management, biomass production, and the overall well-being and health of citizens. Inclusion is considered not only from a social and cultural perspective but also in terms of “vegetational and species inclusion.” Thus, integrating urban forestry into key urban processes aims not only at territorial management through best practices but also at the development of new innovative strategic approaches. By leveraging digital platforms for participatory design, this approach fosters a more inclusive model for urban vegetation management.
