Francesca Gallo, after graduating in Modern Letters with address historical-artistic, she graduated at the School of Specialization in History of Medieval and Modern Art of the University of Rome La Sapienza, with a thesis about the image of Syracuse in travel literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth century (catalogue of the exhibition and the collection Siracusa e la sua imagine, Galleria Regionale di Palazzo Bellomo, Siracusa 2000). From the study of the relationship between art and territory some researches borned about the history of the artistic heritage protection in Sicily in post-unitary age (“Storia Urbana” 2000 and 2004). In the years 2000-2001 she was curator for the museums and exhibitions of the municipal Galleries of Contemporary Art of Ferrara/Palazzo dei Diamanti. She devoted his Ph.D. in History of Art to the exhibition Les Immatériaux (Centre Pompidou 1985) and to the studies and interests in artistic matters by the exhibition curator, the philosopher Jean-François Lyotard (“Annali di critica d’arte” 2006; “Revue Appareil” 2009; and Les Immatériaux: un percorso di Jean-François Lyotard nell’arte contemporanea, Roma 2008). Since 2011, she is Researcher of History of Contemporary Art at Sapienza. Since 2014 she is board member of Consulta Universitaria per la Storia dell'Arte (CUNSTA). She studied the art and the critic of art of the Italian late nineteenth century, in relation to the international context (“Studi di Storia dell’arte” 2010; and Il dinamismo dell’immaginazione. Tra estetica del positivismo, simbolismo e avanguardie: Paul Souriau e gli artisti, Roma, 2009); as well as the techniques and the methods of art in the Twentieth Century (in Arte contemporanea e tecniche, S. Bordini ed., Carocci 2007). She is currently focusing studies Italian Neo-avant-gardes – artists, critics, journals and exhibitions – with a specific focus on videoart and performance (“Ricerche di Storia dell’Arte”, respectively 2006 and 2014). She also wrote on Ketty La Rocca (Postmediabooks 2015; Biennale Donna 2018), Videogiornali by 10th Quadriennale of Rome (“L’Uomo nero” 2018), art in the social context. Francesca Gallo has just curated (with Silvia Bordini) All’alba dell’arte digitale. Il Festival Arte Elettronica di Camerino (Mimesis 2018).
