Research: Strategic neutrality or peace diplomacy? China’s position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its implications for the global governance of conflicts.

Francesca Di Nallo is a PhD candidate in Peace Studies (curriculum 10 - Dynamics, processes and actors in international relations) at Sapienza University of Rome, with a research project titled “Strategic neutrality or peace diplomacy? China’s position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its implications for the global governance of conflicts". The project aims to analyze the narratives, diplomatic practices and geopolitical implications of China’s stance in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, assessing its coherence, resonance at national and global levels, as well as its potential impact on the international system. The goal is to determine whether China, through its “ambivalent” approach, may be contributing to a redefinition of contemporary conflict mediation practices. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Languages and Humanities with the highest grade from the University of Naples L’Orientale, and a Master’s degree cum laude in International Relations (Global Studies) from LUISS Guido Carli University, with a thesis focused on the condition of Islamic minorities in China. Since 2023, she has been working as a technical officer at the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), a public agency dedicated to promoting international development, public aid and humanitarian emergency response. Her research interests range between International Relations, Asian and Oriental Studies with a focus on China and Middle-East, International Humanitarian Law, strategic discourses on global diplomacy and governance of conflicts.
