Research: International Anarchy and International Society: A critical approach to International Relations

The project lies within the interparadigmatic debate of International Relations. In this regard, the project  wants to highlight how the birth of the latter, as an academic discipline, in the United States after the Second World War is a decisive factor for the subsequent development of the various lines of research depending on them. The inevitable hegemony exercised by the United States first over the North Atlantic bloc, and then over the entire globe following the collapse of the Soviet Union, inevitably influenced International Relations’s evolution and the development of the main schools of thought within them. Despite the proliferation of numerous alternative interpretations, especially following the collapse of the bipolar system characterizing the Cold War period, we continue to witness a dialectical polarization between the realist doctrine and the liberal-democratic one, with a clear predominance of the first on the second, also deriving from the numerous failures attributable to liberal doctrines, first in the period between the two world wars, and, subsequently, following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The project aims to problematize and deconstruct some of the main analytical categories of the realist doctrine, and consequently of the entire discipline, with the aim of attempting to build new perspectives for the development of International Relations. In order to do so analytical tools deriving from some of the main schools of Critical Security Studies will be used, as well as numerous cues from the Grotian tradition, as outlined by the English School of International Relations.
