Titolo della tesi: Pneumatic retinopexy (pnR) and Scleral Buckle (Sb) in primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: two procedures - same reattachment modalities? Proposal for a multicenter pilot study and review of the Literature

Primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is one of the most frequent and vision-threatening conditions requiring urgent surgical intervention in Ophthalmology. Despite Pars Plana Vitrectomy is currently the most frequently performed surgery for retinal detachment, in the last 10 years an extensive Literature on the subject has brought Pneumatic Retinopexy and its "more natural reattachment modalities" into vogue . Aim of the study is to review the existing Literature on the field, with deep insight into microstructural imaging features involved in retinal reattachment , to report our recent work on Pneumatic Retinopexy and, starting from our conclusions, to propose a multicenter pilot study on Scleral Buckling using harmonized inclusion criteria, surgical protocols, and detailed imaging analysis, with a focus on reattachment mechanisms, quantitative and qualitative visual outcomes and prognostic factors. We would like to underline the similarity in reattachment modalities between these two different techniques and to propose a foundation for a larger , evidence -based comparison of retinal reattachment modalities in RRD , aimimg to refine surgical decision-making and optimize patient outcomes across diverse clinical settings.
