Thesis title: Governare il sistema delle partecipazioni statali: Una «filosofia dell’intervento» per l’Iri
The thesis aims to investigate the evolution of Iri's “philosophy of intervention” in a period such as the postwar period, marked by the presence of a profound rethinking of the foundations of public intervention in the economy. The work was carried out by going to develop the research within three main guidelines: the outline of the political-economic debate on the characters and purposes of public intervention in the economy, the directions matured in the political arena regarding the configuration of this intervention and the instruments associated with it; the reflections conducted by Iri's management on its own role, functions and methods of intervention in relation both to the characters of the market and the conjuncture, and in relation to its own insertion in the framework of economic policy, the environment and the institutional mechanisms governing it; the operational and industrial decisions in the action of the group's companies and financiers, whose characteristics were naturally conditioned by both factors.
