Emilia Giorgi graduated in Contemporary Art History at the Faculty of Humanities of the Sapienza University of Rome in 2003. From 2002 to 2009 she collaborated with the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage for activities including the definition of the cultural programme of the MAXXI (National Museum of XXI Century Arts) in Rome, where she worked from 2009 to 2012. Since 2012 she has been an independent curator of contemporary visual arts and architecture and has collaborated with institutions such as La Triennale di Milano, the Feltrinelli Foundation, the Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato, the Central Institute for Graphics, the Volume! Foundation and the Pastificio Cerere Foundation in Rome, the Marino Marini Museum in Florence, the IUAV in Venice. In 2014 she curated the "Cut and Paste" section of the Italian Pavilion, directed by Cino Zucchi, at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. She curated the exhibitions "Vittorio Giorgini" and "Relics of Now" for the Milan Arch Week (2017, 2018) directed by Stefano Boeri. She is the author of numerous essays and publications; she was the architecture manager of the periodical “Artribune”, and writes for major Italian newspapers and periodicals, including “Il Manifesto”, “La Repubblica”, “Flash Art”, “Domus”, “Abitare”, “Icon Design”. She writes the “Giro d'Italia” column for “Artribune”. Her latest book is “Giorni come stanze. Riappropriarsi della città” (Libria, 2020). In 2021 she was co-creator of the “Storia di un minuto” section of the Italian Pavilion, curated by Alessandro Melis, at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. She is a nominator at the American Academy in Rome, a member of the Toponymy Advisory Commission of the Municipality of Rome, a member of the scientific committee of the Urban Center of the City of Prato, and of the board of the IN/Arch – National Institute of Architecture of Lazio.
She is currently a PhD student in Architectural and Urban Planning Engineering, Technical Urban Planning curriculum, at DICEA (Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering), Sapienza University, Rome.
