Davide Bertagnolli is Associate Professor of Germanic Philology. After getting his Ph.D. (University of Trento), he researched and taught in England, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. His main interest lies in the field of Middle and High German literature and language (11th-15th centuries), but he has also published scientific articles on Old and Middle English texts. Moreover, he is one of the very few experts in Italy on the medieval Dutch world. The comparative and multidisciplinary perspective has therefore always characterised his research.
His book “Freidank. Die Sprüche über Rom und den Papst”, published in Germany by Kümmerle, won the 2015 Piergiuseppe Scardigli Prize, awarded by the Italian Association of Germanic Philology. In 2020, he published “I Nibelunghi. La leggenda, il mito” (Meltemi Editore), the first monograph in Italian entirely dedicated to the Middle High German “Nibelungenlied”, while in 2023 he prepared the Italian edition and translation of what is considered the oldest Arthurian novel in the Netherlands, the “Ferguut”.
