I graduated in Contemporary History from the University of Pisa and received my Ph.D. from the University of Pavia. I am currently an associate professor in the History of Political Thought at the Department oCiviltà e Forme del Sapere, University of Pisa, where I teach History of Political Thought and History of Political Institutions.
My research interests mainly pertain to the history of political thought and the history of ideas, with a particular focus on France in the long nineteenth century, of which I have studied both individual authors (De Bonald, De Maistre, Chateaubriand, Tocqueville, Comte, but also Lamennais, Ballanche, Tristan, Toussenel) and conceptual problems (despotism, plebiscite, hierarchy, individualism, Bonapartism, Caesarism). My interests also include the intertwining of politics and literature and women's political thought.
With Michela Nacci I direct the journal "Suite française" (Labcd, University of Pisa). With Giuseppe Sciara and Federico Trocini I curate and direct the multimedia popular science project "Women and Political Thought" (DoPP). I co-direct the series "Sponde Renane" for the publisher Rubbettino and the series "Muyeres y Pensamiento politico" for Altamarea Editions (Madrid).
I am a member of the Scientific Committee of the Gaetano Salvemini Foundation for Historical Studies and of the journals "Storia del pensiero politico," "Politics," "Studi Politici" and the series "Filologia e politica" (Giappichelli).
