Annual report

The Phd Course in "History and Cultures of Europe" is in continuity with the previous called "History of Europe" to which this report refers.

In the 2021-2022 academic year there was a complete return to normality. The lessons, the meetings of the Scientific board, the receptions of the Phd students were in presence and only when strictly necessary remotely. Research trips, participation in national and international conferences and participation in educational initiatives in Italy and abroad have resumed. With the end of the emergency situation, we have returned to welcoming visitors and teachers for conferences or study meetings. On the didactic level, Summer/winter schools have been scheduled again. Specifically, the summer school focused on the theme "Europe and Anti-Europe: identity, citizenship, relationships" was held on 23-27 September 2022. The initiative, organized by the Phd Scientific Board, took place at the monastery of Santa Scolastica in Subiaco (near Rome)
Despite the objective difficulties owed to the pandemic, the professors and the tutors for the individual theses have maintained a constant relationship with the doctoral students, both in the phase of intermediate pre-evaluation in June, and at the end of the year between September and October. The college has given the utmost attention to extension requests that have been made as a result of the Ministerial Decree, acknowledging all justifiable requests. In terms of research, the doctoral students have lamented the ongoing difficulties owed to the closure or limited opening of archives.
Among the novelties we note the acquisition of a DM 351 grant, which keep the doctoral program in step with the intellectual and research challenges related to the issues of environmental protection and health linked to sustainability. The presence of international doctoral students has been consolidated as part of the valuable collaboration within the cross-faculty Mediatrends Doctoral School. We also note the acquisition of an additional grant thanks to the agreement with the Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici
Also noteworthy is the Third Mission initiative, organized with the direct and propulsive commitment of Phd students, "Memoria a più voci" (Memory with many voices). It was a project proposed jointly by UGEI - Unione Giovani Ebrei d’Italia (Union of Young Jews of Italy), UCRI - Unione Comunità Romanès in Italia (Romanès Community Union in Italy), the SARAS Department - Sapienza University of Rome and the Arte in Memoria Association. The initiative was sponsored not only by the PhD in History of Europe, but also by the National Coordinator for the Fight against Anti-Semitism at Palazzo Chigi, Milena Santerini.
The productivity of the PhD Board and of the Phd students is constantly monitored. All are encouraged to produce publications and to participate in scientific initiatives that result in the compilation of the papers: this has led to a good level of products being provided to IRIS. With the new institutional mailbox management policy, it should be noted that postdocs, despite being present in the databases and subject to evaluation, cannot provide their own products to IRIS, as they technically lack the credentials and tools for access.
The outcome of this work has brought significant results, for both the professors and the students:
• the research activities of the doctoral students of the 35th cycle produced the publications listed in the individual forms, for a total of 64 products provided
• the research activities of doctoral students of the 36th cycle produced the publications listed in the individual forms, for a total of 62 products provided
• the research activities of the doctoral students of the 37th cycle produced the publications listed in the individual forms, for a total of 12 products provided

However, for organizational reasons due to the needs of the commissions, at the moment none of the students of the XXXV cycle has obtained the title of PhD within the month of February 2022.
