For a historical semiology of literature”, supervisor Prof. Pierre Glaudes, University Paris 4 - Sorbonne. In the French system, the habilitation consists of discussing publicly, in front of a commission formed by six ordinary professors, a dossier composed of the following elements: unpublished work (in my case, on the image of the window in the literature, 500 pages); document summarizing scientific activity (150 pages); collection of publications.

October 1995 Discussion of the PhD thesis entitled “The difficult beginnings. For a poetics of the narrative incipit. Models and variations in Balzac”, supervisor Prof. Luigi de Nardis (University of Rome La Sapienza). The thesis, consecrated to the poetics and theory of the narrative beginnings through a voluntarily heterogeneous critical approach (narratology, thematic criticism, aesthetics of reception), had as its objective, in the first theoretical part, to analyze the functions of the incipit, to elaborate a typology and follow the transformations in the history of the modern novel. The second part, centered on Balzac’s work, was intended to show the instability and fragility of the so-called models of Balzacian incipit, following the movement, the variations and the contradictions of his writing.

1991-1995 PhD in “French Literature” at the University of Rome La Sapienza. During the first years (1991-1993), spent entirely in Paris, participation in courses and seminars in the PhD schools of some universities in Paris (Paris 3, Paris 7, Paris 8), E.N.S. (Ulm), of E.H.E.S.S. and of the I.T.E.M. Afterwards, internship on editing and proofreading at the Costa & Nolan publishing house in Genoa (June-November 1993). From November 1993 to November 1994, military service was carried out in the Navy.

1991-1992 Secondary education qualification in “French Language and Literature”. First in the ranking of the province of Lucca, and appointed professor of French language and civilization at the High School Language of Lido di Camaiore (Lucca).
