Andrea Cristofaro si è laureato in Matematica all'Università di Roma La Sapienza nel 2005 con una tesi sulle equazioni alle derivate parziali ellittiche, e ha ottenuto il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca nel 2010 dall'Università di Camerino, con una tesi su sistemi di controllo nonlineari vincolati. Dal 2010 al 2019 è stato un associato di ricerca presso diverse istituzioni italiane ed europee, in particolare lNRIA di Grenoble (Francia), Università di Camerino (Italia), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norvegia), University of Oslo (Norvegia). Da Settembre 2019 è Ricercatore presso il DIAG, Sapienza Università di Roma. Andrea Cristofaro è autore di più di 100 articoli scientifici, pubblicati in riviste peer-reviewed e conferenze internazionali, ed è membro del comitato editoriale delle conferenze della IEEE Control System Society. I suoi interessi principali di ricerca sono: controllo fault-tolerant, sistemi ibridi, sistemi robotici, controllo di equazioni alle derivate parziali.
