Andrea Arena, Doctor of Philosophy in Structural Engineering, is Associate Professor at the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome.
He teaches the classes of Structural Mechanics and Structural Dynamics at the bachelor course in Sustainable Building Engineering and at master course in Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering, respectively, in the city of Rieti (Sapienza University of Rome).
His main research interests refer to the nonlinear dynamics and the characterization of the critical and post-critical aeroelastic behavior of suspension and arch bridges, the computational fluid dynamics and the nonlinear aerodynamic characterization of bridge deck cross sections; the nonlinear aeroelasticity and the unsteady aerodynamics of aircraft wings in compressible and incompressible flow.
Several contributions in research also concern the nonlinear modeling, the asymptotic and bifurcation analysis of rings, shells and pendular systems; the use of finite element-based and Galerkin approach-based discretization procedures coupled with continuation procedures for the bifurcation analysis of continuous and discrete structural models.
Current research interests focus in the nonlinear modeling, the study of the nonlinear dynamic interactions, the experimental investigations and the control of container cranes and ropeways roller batteries.
Recent developments of his research concern the nonlinear modeling and study of the static and dynamic response of Cable-Driven Parallel Manipulators and the study of the linear and nonlinear dynamics of cellular metamaterial with embedded web-like vibration absorbers.
