Full professor of Germanic Philology at the University of Bologna since 2016. His research activity focuses on Gothic and Lombard languages and literatures; the reception and rewriting of the Germanic cultural tradition in modern and contemporary times; and Germanic cultural aspects within early medieval texts. It also deals with the relations between Germanic culture within the broader context represented by the medieval European world. Analyzes Germanic texts with philological, linguistic and comparative methodologies in order to recover the cultural context in which they were produced and/or copied.


Education

Graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature in 1989 from the University of Verona, in 1994 he obtained a PhD in Germanistics (Germanic Philology) (administrative seat: University of Florence).


Academic career

Since 1995 he has been researcher of Germanic Philology at the University of Padua remaining in service until 1999; in that year he moved to the University of Ferrara becoming, in 2005, associate professor of Germanic Philology. In 2008 he moved to the University of Bologna where he became full professor of Germanic Philology in 2016.


Teaching activities

Since 1995, he has been continuously teaching as the holder of various seminars and teachings for first four-year, then three-year and master's degree courses in both Germanic Philology and Nordic Literature.

He is currently Professor in Germanic Philology and Nordic Literatures for the degree programs in Foreign Languages and Literatures (three-year), Humanities (three-year), and Modern, Comparative and Postcolonial Literatures (master's) at the University of Bologna.



Since the 35th cycle (a.y. 2019/20) he has been a member of the teaching board of the PhD Text Sciences from the Middle Ages to Modernity: Medieval Philologies, Paleography, Romance Studies (Roma La Sapienza)


Scientific activity

She has participated in numerous national and international research programs including PRIN 2002 (2002108943_002): Rewriting and intertextuality: metamorphoses, interferences and reinterpretations of the medieval text; PRIN 2006 (2006105904_005): Composition, transmission and instability of the medieval Germanic text: new criteria and models of edition. He was coordinator, for the University of Ferrara, of the European Thematic Network ACUME2 Interfacing Science & Literature, Subproject 3, Scientific Myth-making, Travelling the World. Scientific Discoveries and Narrative Discourses, Travel Literature (2006-2008). He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the international project Building Europe. Columbanus and his legacy (2012-2015).

From November 2018 to April 2021, he was deputy director of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC)

Since 2018, he has been a member of the Research Committee of the (LILEC).

From April 9, 2015 to 2020: Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Library of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC).

From 03/19/2013 to 02/15/2019: member of the University Quality Presidium of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.

He was coordinator of the scientific committee of the first issue of the journal "Filologia Germanica / Germanic Philology" (2009); from 2009 to the end of 2014 he was a member of the editorial board of the journal "Filologia Germanica / Germanic Philology". Other activities
