Research: A research in historical ethno-organology on a corpus of Eurasian instruments from the collections of the Museum of Civilisations

My project proposes a study of a historical-organological nature that, starting from the analysis of some chordophones of Eurasian origin kept in the Museum of Civilizations (MuCiv) complex in Rome, intends to rethink ethno-organology by formulating a theoretical-methodological proposal that is able to contribute, through the study of historical specimens and the events related to them, to a possible reconstruction of the fragmentary mosaic of the recent past of Eurasian musical cultures. Acquiring analytical methodologies and aims of early organology and dialoguing with the most recent developments in ethno-organological studies, this research project intends to add a piece to the studies on historical musical instruments, exploiting a composite methodology and making use of a differentiated technical and technological apparatus and formulating an original perspective of analysis.
