The VERITAS Payload

08/06/2021

The VERITAS payload consists of three instruments: the VISAR radar, for the acquisition of high-resolution SAR images and precision altimetry, the Venus Emissivity Mapper (VEM), a spectrometer that will provide the mineralogical composition of the surface through observations in the infrared wavelength bands in which the atmosphere is sufficiently transparent, and the Integrated Deep Space Transponder (IDST), which, in addition to being the heart of the on-board telecommunications system, will allow precision telemetry to measure the gravity field and determine the internal structure of Venus. Thales Alenia Space Italia will realize the IDST and the VISAR receiver electronics, in collaboration with the Centro Ricerca Aerospaziale della Sapienza (CRAS), which involves professors and researchers from DIMA and DIET.
