Immune responses can drive both protection and disease. This lecture will explore how immune network dynamics shape clinical outcomes, focusing on inflammatory signatures in Zika-affected pregnancies, the role of systemic and mucosal inflammation in Long COVID–related smell loss, and molecular epidemiology of HTLV-1/2 in relation to neuroinflammatory risk. It will concludewith a discussion of the logistical and ethical challenges of conducting longitudinal research in remote Amazonian communities<
