Professor and Researcher at the Department of Chemical, Materials and Environmental Engineering of Sapienza - University of Rome, in the scientific disciplinary sector ING-IND / 24 (Principles of Chemical Engineering), where he obtained the National Scientific Qualification from 2014.

Head of GreenSapiens: www.bit.ly/GreenSapiens

Circular and Bio-economy Expert, in 2017 won a European project Horizon 2020 - BBI JU (€ 7.2 million) as Project Manager and Scientific Coordinator leading an international consortium of 13 partners, including public institutions and multinational private companies. The project presented ("Separation, fractionation and isolation of biologically active natural substances from corn and other side streams") obtained the evaluation of 14.5 over 15 receiving funds from the European Union and from Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC).

Dissemination and Exploitation Manager with expertise in organization and execution of communication plans and actions for the exploitation of bio-based results.

Graduated in Chemical Engineering (BioChemical Engineering specialization) at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", later on he obtained, with "excellent" evaluation, the PhD in Chemical Engineering of the Environment and Safety.

Since two decades, he has been involved in the enhancement of agro-industrial residues through the extraction of bio-active compounds of interest in the cosmetic, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Member of the Teaching Board of the PhD in Chemical Engineering, at the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering of Sapienza - University of Rome, over the years he has held the courses of "Principles of Biochemical Engineering" for the Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering and of "Chemical Engineering for Biomedical Systems" for the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

He is also Professor of the courses of "Fundamentals of Separation Operations" (Degree in Chemical Engineering) and Chemical Engineering for Biomedical Systems (Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering).

He has been supervisor and co-supervisor of numerous degree theses for first and second level courses and for the PhD in Chemical Engineering.

He carries out activities as referee for scientific journals in the fields of chemical engineering, food technologies and circular economy.

He is on the Editorial Board of several international scientific journals, including "Processes", "Molecules", "Polymers", "Applied Sciences", "American Journal of Biochemistry and Biotechnology", "Catalysts" and "Chemical Engineering Transactions".

He has participated in several research projects funded by MIUR, the University and important private companies, in many cases being scientific director of the research unit or of the experimental activities and / or of the project as a whole.

In addition to third sector activities with consultancy and research projects for third parties in the Circular Economy and Green Chemistry fields, he is currently involved in the following research projects, financed by the Lazio Region: PROBIS - "Innovative and Sustainable Biotechnological Processes for the recovery of molecules of nutraceutical interest from waste from the fish supply chain" and BEEP - "Algal biomass as a source of energy and pigments ".

He is the author of over 120 scientific publications and co-author of national and international industrial invention patents.

His research activity has developed in various sectors, including catalysis, chemical thermodynamics, enzyme kinetics, protein engineering and transport phenomena in microencapsulated systems.

Current research is mainly focused on the treatment and re-use of agro-industrial residues, especially through the recovery of high added value bioactive compounds, and the degradation of pollutants by advanced oxidation processes.

Another field of research concerns the development of functional products with antioxidant and/or antibacterial and anti-quorum sensing properties.

In recent years, further lines of research have been developed, also with the collaboration of important industrial partners, concerning: the production of "green" nanoparticles of cosmetic and biomedical interest; the optimization of new generation biorefineries operating with microalgae.

The investigated themes are carried out also through international collaborations, in particular with the Université de La Lorraine (Nancy branch) and with the ILAB research group (Italian - Latin American Biochemical Group) of which he is Coordinator and to which they refer, among others, researchers from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (Bucaramanga, Colombia), from the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (Cúcuta, Colombia), from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile (Chile), from the Universidad de Cartagena, from the Universidad de Pamplona and the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas (Cuba).
