Vittoria Bruni is Associate Professor of Numerical Analysis at the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences for Engineering in the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome. From 2010 to 2019, she was a permanent researcher at the same faculty. She graduated in Mathematics from La Sapienza University of Rome in 2001, and in 2006 she received her Ph.D. in "Mathematical Models and Methods for Technology and Society" from the Department of Methods and Models for Applied Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering at the same university. From 2001 to 2019, she collaborated with Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo M. Picone of the Italian National Research Council. She has participated in several basic and applied research projects and projects for the support of industrial research and experimental development activities as both scientific leader and participant. Under the PNRR program funding, she is currently participating in the research activities of Spoke 6 "Multiscale modeling engineering applications,” of the National Research Center HPC, Big data and Quantum Computing (CN1), and Spoke 2 of the Extended Partnership Cybersecurity, New Technologies and Rights Protection (PE7) "SEcurity and RIghts in the CyberSpace (SERICS)."

She has expertise in approximation theory, multiresolution methods, time-frequency and time-scale transforms for defining sparse representations. In particular, her research activity deals with mathematical processing of multidimensional data, from both theoretical and application perspectives, and it includes the definition of efficient computational methods for signal and image denoising and enhancement, human perception-based image quality assessment, and for application-driven feature extraction oriented to optimizing analysis, recognition, and classification processes in application fields, like cultural heritage, image forensics, environmental monitoring, remote sensing.
Research results are described in several papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. She holds two international patents and she is reviewer for several international journals.
