Vincenzo Eramo received his "Laurea" degree in Electronics Engineering in 1995 and his "Dottorato di Ricerca" (PhD degree) in Information and Communications Engineering in 2001, both from the University of Roma "La Sapienza". From June 1996 to December 1996 he was a researcher at the Scuola Superiore Reiss Romoli. In 1997, he joined the Fondazione Ugo Bordoni as a researcher in the Telecommunication Network Planning group. From November 2002 to October 2005 was an assistant professor and from November 2006 to August 2015 was an Aggregate Professor. Currently he is an Associate Professor in Department of Engineering of Information, Electronics and Telecommunications (University of Rome “La Sapienza”). He got the Full Professor Habilitation in April 2017.
He collaborated with the ALCATEL LUCENT research center in Murray Hill (NY) from 01/01/2001 to 31/12/2001.
His research activities have been carried out in the framework of national and international projects. In particular Vincenzo Eramo was scientific coordinator for University of Roma “La Sapienza” in EURO (Experimental University Router Open), BORA-BORA (Building Open Router Architecture Based on Router Aggregation) and SFINGI (SoFtware-routers to Improve Next-Generation Internet), three national projects financed by MUR (Minister for University and Research) in 2002-2004, 2005-2006 e 2011-2013 respectively and focused on the performance evaluation of Software Router. Vincenzo Eramo was scientific coordinator for University of Roma “La Sapienza” of E-PhotoONe+ and BONE, two Networks of Excellence focusing on the study of Optical Networks and financed by European Commissions (FP6 and FP7) in 2006-2007 and 2008-2011 respectively. He carries out research activity for TELECOM ITALY. Actually he is the coordinator of the University of Roma Sapienza in the Advanced Avionic Architecture (AAA) project funded by Italian Spatial Agency for the years 2016-2017 and in the “Nano and Micro Launch Vehicle Communication System” project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the years 2017-2018.
He was Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Computers from July 2011 to June 2015. He has been an Associate Editor of IEEE Communications Letters since 2014, IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing since July 2016 and Photonic Network Communications (Springer) since September 2013. He won the Exemplary Editor Awards 2016 and 2017 of IEEE Communications Letters.
He was a Guest Editor of the following Special Issues: “Open Source for Networking: Protocol Stack” (March 2014) and “Open Source for Networking: Tools and Applications” (September 2014) organized on IEEE Network, “Innovative Techniques for Power Consumption Saving in Telecommunication Networks” (February 2014) and Design of High Throughput and Cost-Efficient Data Center Networks Supporting NFV (May 2016) organized on Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering and “Software Defined Elastic Optical Networks” (September 2014) organized on Photonic Network Communications.
The current research activity of Vincenzo Eramo is focused on the definition and the performance evaluation of Network Function Virtualization Architecture.
