Research, development and corporate innovation in the Global Value Chain

The aim of the research project is to study the interactions between the Global Value Chains phenomenon (the splitting of the production stages of goods and services among different companies in several countries) and the R&D activities, as well as their impact on the OECD countries, the multilevel governance strategies to maintain GVC and innovation activities in their territories, the cooperation and coordination policies in this regard, the role of regional policy. Indeed, the firm’s participation at GVC activities (especially at innovative GVC activities, very widespread in developed countries) is positively related to productivity growth. Therefore, the purpose of the study is also to examine strengths and weaknesses of the productive systems and the socioeconomic backgrounds in OECD countries, along with their ability to attract innovation and investment. The project will be implemented through cooperation with proper agencies and institutions, such as the Unioncamere research centre.
