Curriculum Vitae of Valentina Venturini
Valentina Venturini is professor in “Theatre Studies” at the Faculty of Arts of University Roma Tre.
She is a Ph.D. in “Cinema in its interrelations with Theatre and other Arts” at University Roma Tre (XVIII cycle).
Her research activity is mostly focused on theatrical traditions, as well as their principles, developments and de-generations.
More in detail, her work involves the Neapolitan theatre between end XIX and first-half XX century and its great “exception”, Raffaele Viviani; the Sicilian theatre of puppets and “Cunto” and their last great heir and master, Mimmo Cuticchio.
She is theatrical critic, since February 2001 she is member of the Society of Professional Journalists and she is editor-in-chief of the performing arts magazine “Inscena”.
EDUCATION:
In 1989 she obtained the A-level General Certificate of Education at the classical lycée “Giulio Cesare” in Rome;
On 12/01/1994 she graduated in Arts at University Roma “La Sapienza” with full marks (110/110 “summa cum laude”) discussing a thesis about “Methodology of performing arts criticism”.
In 1995 she was admitted and she attended the first course for young theatrical critics organized by ETI and the National Association of Theatrical Critics, which took place in Florence, at Theatre “La Pergola”.
She qualified in the competitive exams for the admission to the following Doctorates: “Theatre Studies” (XI and XII cycle – University of Bologna); “History of modern and contemporary theatre” (XII cycle – University of Salerno); “Theory and history of drama representation” (XIII cycle – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan); “Theory and Technics of drama and theatre” (XIII cycle – University of Rome “La Sa-pienza”);
She passed the written and oral exams (first session 2000) for the inscription to the Soci-ety of Professional Journalists of which she is member since February 2001 (Lazio and Molise Society of Professional Journalists);
In the academic year 2000/2001 she was assigned a contribute with a contract (Young Researchers Project) in the degree course “Dams” of the University Roma Tre.
In October 2002 she passed the competitive exam for the admission to the Doctorate in “Cinema in its interrelations with Theatre and other Arts” at University Roma Tre (XVIII cycle).
In May 2006 she was entitled her Ph.D. in “Cinema in its interrelations with Theatre and other Arts” discussing a thesis about “History of the Theatre” on “The Raffaele Vivi-ani’s company”;
Since February 2008 she is Researcher in “Theatre Studies” at the Faculty of Arts of University Roma Tre.
SCIENTIFIC AND DIDACTIC ACTIVITIES:
Since 1999 she is cooperating to the didactic activities as member of exam commissions and “expert of the subject” at the chair of Prof. Franco Ruffini (Modules: “Outline of Contemporary Theatre”, “Theories of the Actor”, “Masters of the Twentieth Century”) in the degree course “Dams” at University Roma Tre.
Since 1999 she is cooperating to the didactic activities as member of exam commissions and “expert of the subject” at the chair of Prof. Nicola Savarese (modules: “Theatre and Performance between East and West”, “Theatrical Anthropology”, “Theatre and Digital Technology”) in the degree course “Dams” at University Roma Tre.
Since 1999, she edited, as coordinator, the section “Theatrical cultures” of the website of the Faculty of Arts of L’Aquila University at the chair of “History of Theatre and Per-formance” (Prof. Ferdinando Taviani);
In the academic year 2000/2001, in the module of “Italian theatrical literature” of the degree course “Dams” at University Roma Tre, she hold a cycle of seminars about “Raf-faele Viviani”;
In the academic year 2001/2002 she delivered a seminar about “Moby Dick in theatre, cinema and television” in the module “Analysis of videos: East and West theatres” of Prof. Nicola Savarese;
In the academic year 2003/2004, she hold a seminar about “Variety between theatre and cinema” in the module “Theatre and performance between East and West” of Prof. Nicola Savarese;
In the academic year 2005/2006, she was assigned a contribute for tutoring, didactic-integrative and preliminary activities at the degree course “Dams” of University Roma Tre;
In the academic year 2006/2007, she taught, under a temporary contract, “Theatre and performance between East and West” at University Roma Tre, Faculty of Arts;
In 2007 she obtained the complete financing by CNR (National Research Centre) for the publication of the monographic work “Raffaele Viviani. La compagnia, Napoli e l’Europa”, at the end of the selection for the project “Promotion of the Research 2005” – Announcement of a competitive examination to assign research funds for young re-searchers and for the publications of remarkable works in humanities – The cultural identity as an integration factor (Announcement of a competitive examination CNR 716/2006).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES:
In the period 1995 -1997 she was collaborating with the theatrical monthly magazine “Hystrio” published by Ricordi: she was author of reviews, interviews and news articles.
In the period 1995 -1996, she was participating to the activities of Abraxa Theatre: she collaborated to the drama researching and preparation of shows as assistant director;
Since January 1997 she is editor of “Sincronie, rivista semestrale di letterature, teatro e sistemi di pensiero”, publisher: Vecchiarelli;
In 1998 she collaborated with the Italian Encyclopaedia – Treccani for researching and editing of 4/16 iconographic and photographic tables out of the text of the article “Teatro e Società”, published in the 8° volume of the Encyclopaedia of Social Sciences;
Since 1998 she collaborates with Radiotre suite to select the better shows in Italy for the radio-programmes “Teatri sonori” and “Oltre il sipario”.
From July 2001 to October 2004 she was editor-in-chief of “Primafila”, a monthly magazine of theatre and live show; since December 1996, she was member of the edito-rial staff;
Since January 2005 she is editor-in-chief of the performing arts magazine “Inscena”.

She is author of encyclopaedic entries for Treccani and of essays for “Teatro e Storia”, “Ariel”, “Sincronie”, “Dioniso” and “Biblioteca teatrale”.
