Sonia Gentili is a full professor of Italian Literature (Sapienza University of Rome), essayist (L’uomo aristotelico alle origini della letteratura italiana, 2005, Novaro Prize - Accademia dei Lincei; Novecento scritturale. La letteratura e la Bibbia, 2016; L’idea di poesia nel Medioevo, 2024), poet (L’impero e la Gorgone, 2007; Parva naturalia, 2012; Viaggio mentre morivo, 2016, Viareggio Prize and Pisa Prize; I quattro gesti della creazione, 2020, special mention Carducci Prize; Un giorno di guerra, 2024, finalist Viareggio Prize), storyteller (I filosofi, 2019), children's storyteller (Favole per credere alle favole, 2022).
From 2015 to 2021, she was a member of the board of the Società Dantesca Italiana, for which she curated the 2021 Dante centenary exhibition Dante e il suo tempo nelle biblioteche fiorentine (Dante and his time in the Florentine libraries). In 2021-22, she was a Fellow at the Institut d'Études Avancées de Paris.
