Sara Sullam is tenure-track Assistant Professor in English Literature at the Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Mediations, University of Milan. She is a Visiting Research Fellow (non-honorary) at the Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Reading, where she was a British Academy Visiting Fellow in 2018-2019. Her research interests focus on English modernism in comparative perspective (with particular reference to the work of Virginia Woolf) and publishing relations (specifically in the field of literary publishing) between Italy and the UK between 1945 and 1970. On this topic she is writing a monograph entitled Before Translation: British Publishers Reading and Evaluating Italian Fiction (1945-1970) to be published by Routledge. She is the author of Tra i generi: Virginia Woolf e il romanzo (Mimesis 2016), Moll Flanders. Matrici (Mimesis 2018) and Leggere Woolf (Carocci 2020). She edited issue 56 (2014) of the journal il verri entitled La mente in-diretta, dedicated to different theories of free indirect speech. With Gianni Cianci and Caroline Patey she edited Transits: The Nomadic Geographies of Anglo-American Modernism (Peter Lang 2010). With Marco Canani she edited the volume Parallaxes: Virginia Woolf meets James Joyce (Cambridge Scholar Publishing 2014). Alongside her academic research, she has always worked as a publishing consultant (for Garzanti, Bollati Boringhieri, Mondadori, il Saggiatore), as a reader and translator. Her translations include James Joyce's non-fiction work in Lettere e saggi, edited by Enrico Terrinoni (il Saggiatore 2016); part of Joan Didion's non-fiction work; Genius and Ink (selection of reviews written by Virginia Woolf for the Times Literary Supplement; HarperCollins 2020). Her new translation of Orlando, with introduction and notes (Mondadori) is forthcoming. She is on the editorial board of Enthymema. Journal of Philosophy and Theory of Literature and on the editorial board of Letteratura e letterature.
