Thesis title: The neuropsychological effects of mindfulness meditation: from self-referential thinking to other-oriented behavior
The main aim of my PhD project was to deepen the understanding of the impact of mindfulness meditation in the intra- and inter-personal domains. Chapter 1 and 2 present a systematic review and a randomized controlled study on the effects of mindfulness meditation on mind wandering; chapters 3 and 4 discuss the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on socio-moral behavior and present preliminary evidence on mindfulness reducing dishonest behavior. Chapter 5 discusses a study on the beneficial effects of mind-body practices on adolescents psychological well-being. The conclusion section summarizes the presented findings as an outcome of enhanced self-awareness, self-regulation and self-transcendence.
