Research: Incest and Taboo Language in the French and British Press (2017-2022)

Sophie Eyssette conducts her PhD research project on “Incest and Taboo Language in the French and British Press (2017-2022)”. The project carries out a cross-linguistic corpus-assisted discourse analysis on the often disregarded, yet prevalent, taboo of incest. Her research stays at Lancaster University in 2022 and 2023 helped her address the methodological challenges of absence and cross-linguistics in corpus linguistics. Before being admitted to the PhD programme Studies in English Literatures, Language and Translation at La Sapienza University of Rome, in cotutelle with the University of Silesia in Poland, she graduated in Intercultural Communication and Translation at ISIT in Paris, with French, English, German and Italian as her language combination. Previous to this, she completed Erasmus semesters at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, the University of Bologna in Italy and Swansea University in Wales, and gained working experience at the United Nations in Vienna, the Ministry of Culture, and the Red Cross in Paris.
