Thesis title: Imported Italian pottery in Crete and the Ionian Islands c. 11th - 16th. The case study of Castel Selino in Chania, Crete.

The remains of Castel Selino lie in the southwest corner of the island of Crete, Greece, south of Paleochora and up in Forteza hill. Archaeological research during restorations in the castle attributed important elements considering the Venetian fortification system and local history, while revealing an impressive amount of material culture and more specifically of pottery. A first attempt to interpret and identify the Italian pottery which was unearthed is attempted in this thesis. At the same time, a comparative study of material discovered at the rest of the island of Crete in combination with the also conquered by the Venetians Ionian Islands, will be able to provide answers to all possible interactions at these areas, as well as in the Eastern Mediterranean in general during the 11th-16th centuries.
