Thesis title: Le ceramiche depurate acrome e di impasto da Pyrgi. Produzione e consumo tra abitato e complesso santuariale

The work presented here aims to investigate the contexts of production and use of the coarse-grained pottery and fine tableware pottery found at the site of Pyrgi (Santa Severa, Santa Marinella - RM) with the aim of reconstructing - between the Archaic and Hellenistic periods - the dynamics of life, economy, production and religion and their interrelationships between the ancient port of Pyrgi and the urban centre of Cerveteri. At the methodological level, a multidisciplinary approach was adopted, involving chrono-typological and contextual analysis, geological investigation of the area and petrographic analysis of the ceramics under study. The database is therefore based on the morphological study of coarse ware (the so-called "impasto rosso", "rosso-bruno", "chiaro-sabbioso") and the fine unpainted ware found in the so-called “public-ceremonial” quarter, the Monumental Sanctuary and the Southern Sanctuary of Pyrgi between 1972 and 2022, which has not yet been systematically published. The study of ceramic production methods and the transmission of technological knowledge was therefore accompanied by research into the practical, religious and ritual customs attested in the sacred areas that make up the large maritime sanctuary of Cerveteri, a context with fundamental informative potential as it was frequented for different reasons (cult, trade, residence, etc.) over a period ranging from the end of the 7th to the first half of the 3rd century BC.
