Research: COLLAPSE: The collapse of Late Pre-Pottery Neolithic B societies. A techno-economic study of the flaked stone assemblages from the Settlement of Baʿja (Wadi Musa, Jordan)

The COLLAPSE PhD project aims to investigate the transition between the Late Pre-Pottery Neolithic B and the Final Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (ca. 7500–6400 BC) in the southern Levant through the case study of the site of Baʿja (Wadi Musa, Jordan). The research focuses on the analysis of the site’s flaked stone assemblages through an integrated technological, functional, experimental, and spatial approach, in order to explore the techno-economic changes involved in the disintegration of the megasite system in the southern Levant at the end of the PPNB.

Trained at the University of Pisa, where I graduated with honours with a BA in Cultural Heritage Sciences (2021) and an MA in Archaeology, Prehistoric curriculum (2024), I held a Research Grant (2024–2025) within the project PRIN 22: CHRONOS Project – The obsidian route in the central Mediterranean: diaCHRONic pathways and cultural connectiOnS. My work focused on the technological, functional, and provenance analysis of obsidian flaked stone industries from Early/Middle Neolithic sites in central and northern Italy.
I have participated in numerous excavation and study campaigns at prehistoric sites (Epipalaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic) in Italy and abroad (Cyprus, Spain, Oman, Jordan), and have taken part in international conferences and schools.
