PhD research: environmental changes and dynamics of agrarian morphology, mobility and land use in southern Tuscany. The case of the Grosseto plain. Tutor: Christophe Petit (Univ. Paris 1), Carlo Citter (Univ. of Siena) and Magali Watteaux (Univ. Rennes 2). Simone Grosso has a background in archaeology and archaeogeography, acquired jointly in France and Italy. In 2021, he obtained a master's degree as part of a double degree program between the University of Siena and the University of Rennes 2, with a thesis on the Venice Lagoon and the reconstruction of the ancient site of Equilum (Jesolo). In 2022, he completed a second master's degree (Master 2) in environmental archaeology and archaeogeography at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, focused on the diachronic evolution of the Grosseto Lagoon. Since September 2022, he has been pursuing a PhD in archaeology (2022–2026) at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne ( with the University of Rome "La Sapienza"), within the ANR PARCEDES project ("Parcellaires agraires et dynamiques d’exploitation du sol dans la longue durée"), coordinated by Magali Watteaux. His research, supervised by Christophe Petit, Carlo Citter, and Magali Watteaux, aims to analyze and understand the main environmental and anthropogenic dynamics that have shaped the coastal area of the Grosseto plain from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Particular attention is given to agrarian morphology, historical road networks, land use, and land ownership over the long term. To carry out this research properly, data from diverse and heterogeneous sources have been integrated, including historical cartography, non-planimetric cadastres, archaeological prospections, written sources, and paleo-environmental data.
