Research: Bishops, abbots and cura animarum in Calabria from the 11th to the 15th centuries: archaeological investigations in Ancient Mileto (VV)

Graduated in Archaeology and Medieval Civilizations, I am currently enrolled in the 40th PhD cycle, with a focus on Archaeology and Post-Classical Antiquities.

During my undergraduate and master's studies, I developed an interest in excavation and the study of funerary contexts, initially setting as research goals the interpretation and chronological reconstruction of burial stratigraphy, and then deepening the investigations by focusing on spatial distributions, sociocultural aspects, and the anthropological features of medieval necropolises in Southern Etruria.

With my doctoral research project titled "Bishops, Abbots, and cura animarum in Calabria from the 11th to the 15th centuries: archaeological investigations in Ancient Mileto (VV)," I aim to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in the field of funerary archaeology to other contexts, integrating data, information, and technical knowledge from other disciplines through a multi- and interdisciplinary approach.

In January 2023, I obtained a Master's Degree in Archaeology from the University of Rome La Sapienza, presenting a thesis titled "Death and Privilege in Leopoli-Cencelle (VT): Burials in Stone Coffins and Sarcophagi as Indicators of Social Status" (Supervisor: Prof. G. M. Annoscia, Co-Supervisor: Prof. M. C. Martinez-Labarga).

In March 2020, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Archaeological Sciences from the University of Rome La Sapienza, discussing the thesis titled "The Church of San Pietro in Cencelle: Analysis of the Burials Found in the Central Nave" (Supervisor: Prof. F. R. Stasolla).

During my years of education and professional activity, I have participated in the following projects for public and private institutions:

Educational Excavations (Coppa Nevigata (FG); Pyrgi (RM); Cencelle (VT); Selvena (GR); Enna (EN); Anzio (RM));
Research Projects (Mileto (VV); Arena (VV); Castelmonardo (VV));
Preventive Archaeological Excavations (Tarquinia, loc. Carcarello (VT); Tarquinia, loc. Pantano (VT); Capena (RM));
Emergency Excavations (Borgata Aurelia (RM); Rome, Via Flaminia; Rome, Via Cassia).
