Sara Colpo is a maritime and underwater archaeologist. Since 2025, she has been a PhD candidate (XLI Cycle) in Archaeology (Classical Archaeology Curriculum) at Sapienza – University of Rome.

She began her academic journey at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Performing Arts Management (Archaeology Curriculum). During her studies, she developed a strong passion for maritime archaeology and obtained the international FIPSAS/CMAS 1° ARA (Open Water Diver) certification, allowing her to participate in both terrestrial and underwater excavations and research projects. She graduated cum laude with a thesis entitled “Maritime Trade of Copper Ingots in the Roman Period”. Subsequently she took part in the writing of the scientific article “Archaeometallurgical Characterization of Mediterranean Discoidal Shape Copper Alloy” (D. Ashkenazi, C. Beltrame, S. Colpo, A. Inberg, C. C. Anovaro, G. Artioli, 2022).

She continued her academic education by enrolling in the Master’s Degree Programme in Ancient Civilisations: Literature, History and Archaeology (Archaeology Curriculum), also at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Under the supervision of Professor Carlo Beltrame, she focused her research on the evolution of human interaction with the maritime environment and its socio-cultural implications in the Mediterranean world—from its origins to the late Middle Ages—examining the construction of maritime facilities and the dynamics of ancient and medieval trade. During this period, she also successfully obtained the FIPSAS 2° ARA (Advanced Open Water Diver) international certification.
