Roberto Navigli è Professore Ordinario (INF/01) presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Informatica, Automatica e Gestionale della Sapienza Università di Roma. Dal 2010 al 2017 ha ricoperto la carica di Professore Associato e dal 2007 al 2010 la carica di Ricercatore presso lo stesso Ateneo. Ha conseguito la laurea in Informatica presso l'Università degli Studi di Roma "Sapienza" nel 2001, ed ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca. in Informatica presso lo stesso Ateneo nel 2007.
Nel 2006 e nel 2008 è stato Visitor presso la School of Informatics dell'Università di Edimburgo, UK, finanziata da borse di ricerca della Commissione Europea e della Royal Scottish Society. Nel 2007 e nel 2008 è stato Visiting Researcher presso il Dipartimento di Informatica dell'Università del Sussex, Regno Unito.
La sua ricerca si colloca nell'area del Natural Language Processing, con particolare attenzione alla multilingua, alla semantica lessicale (Word Sense Disambiguation and induction) e alla semantica a livello di frase (Semantic Role Labeling e Semantic Parsing). È il creatore di BabelNet (http://babelnet.org) e il co-fondatore di una startup di successo della Sapienza, Babelscape, lavorando con diversi enti pubblici europei e italiani e clienti internazionali.
PROGETTI
- Vincitore di due ERC Grant in "informatica" (MultiJEDI ERC Starting Grant 2010-2016 e MOUSSE ERC Consolidator Grant 2017-2022, per un totale di circa 3 milioni di euro), grazie ai quali ha creato un solido gruppo di ricerca nell'ambito dell'elaborazione multilingue del linguaggio naturale.
- Ha ricevuto un Google Focused Research Award (circa 300000$, in collaborazione con DFKI Berlin)
- E' coordinatore Sapienza del progetto ELEXIS eInfrastructure (2018-2022, quota Sapienza: circa 450000 euro).
- E' PI del progetto PerLIR PRIN 2017 (2019-2022, quota Sapienza: circa 100000 euro)
