Research activity.
The research activity is in the field of optics, and photothermal and photoacoustic techniques for nondestructive testing of materials. Since 2005 Roberto Li Voti is the responsible of the laboratory of photothermal and photoacoustic techniques at Dipartimento di Scienze di Base ed Applicate per l’Ingegneria of Sapienza Università di Roma , Italy. In particular the following techniques have been designed, realised, and optimized: photothermal deflection spectroscopy, photoacoustic spectroscopy, photothermal radiometry and infrared thermography.
These techniques have been applied for nondestructive testing of materials allowing to measure the following properties of materials: the thermal diffusivity, the optical absorbance, the optical and thermal depth profiling, the detection of buried and subsurface layers, the analysis of traces of gaseous pollutants, the optimization of photovoltaic cells, and recently the detection of dichroism and resonances in nanostructures.
He is the author of about 180 scientific papers published in international journals and in conference proceedings, more than 100 abstracts presented at conferences.

• In 1998, European project HARDPHOTOTEC BRRT-CT97-5032 (DG 12 -HIAS9), visiting scientist at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium
• In 2002, 3 months as visiting scientist at the Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan (in the framework of the CNR and JSPS agreement
• In 2004, a period of 1 month at the Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan granted by CNR/JSPS

• 2017-2018: Principal Investigator of a research contract with Bifrangi SpA and MDM Metrosoft for the development and application of radiometric techniques for measuring the effective depth of cementation of steel.

• 2017-2020. Scientific coordinator of the research project “SCHERMA” with the Ministry of Defense to design, produce and characterize new materials for the manipulation and the emissivity

• From 2014: Principal Investigator of a “Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation” between the Nanjing Institute for Product Quality Inspection and the Dipartimento S.B.A.I. with the purposes of an active collaboration in the field of nondestructive testing on products.

• 2014 - 2015: Principal Investigator of a research contract with ITALDATA S.p.A. for the identification of the research subjects to be implemented as applet or digital objects for mobile. This work has been done in the framework of a Coresearch project funded by FILAS
