– Research Activity

General description of the areas and the research activities

From 1999 member of the research group coordinated by prof. Nino Dazzi, prof. Alessandra De Coro and prof. Francesca Ortu from University of Rome “La Sapienza”. The group have developed a peculiar interest in the study of the evolution of therapeutic micro-processes with reference to the problems of the patient’s defensive style and relationship schemata; the relationship between the kind of therapeutic interventions and therapeutic alliance in psychodynamic psychotherapy of patients with severe personality disorders. During the activity of research receives training for the application of the following instruments of measurement of therapeutic change: CCRT (Core Conflict Relationship Theme) by Luborsky and Crits-Cristoph, DMRS (Defense Mechanism Rating Scale) by Perry, IVAT (Indice di Valutazioone dell’Alleanza Terapeutica) by Lingiardi, SWAP-200 and SWAP-200-A (Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure and Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure for Adolescents) by Shedler and Westen, AAI (Adult Attachment Interview) by Main and Goldwin code system and by Lyons-Ruth Hostile-Helpless classification, Atwood e Melnick; Parent-Adolescent Interaction Coding System by Lyons-Ruth, Hennighausen, Holmes. Publications and papers for National and International congresses have stemmed from this research activity as reported in the publication section of this C.V.
Since 2001 to 2005 coordinates a research project on risk factors for the development of Eating Disorders in adolescence at the child psychiatric Unit of the Pediatric Hospital “Bambino Gesù” of Rome. Patients and their parents’ attachment organization, personality pathology and family interactions are evaluated.
From 2010 the candidate’s research activities have focused on 3 primary areas: a) the relationships between the development of attachment models, in particular within the contexts of traumatic experiences, and the development of personality and psychopathological functioning, with a specific emphasis on the relationship between attachment disorganization, personality pathology, psychopathology and mental functioning; b) the assessment of personality pathology and the associated psychopathology, both in childhood and adolescence, with a specific focus on the relationship between the psychodynamic processes characterizing borderline and narcissistic personality pathology and suicidal behavior in adolescence; c) the theoretical analysis of psychodynamic concepts in the frame of Philosophy of mind and neuro-scientific research, studying in detail the consequences of traumatic experiences on personality development, mental functioning, models of the unconscious, affective and motivational development.
