Degree with graduation thesis in Early modern History, the University of Pisa in 1994; Ph.D. in History in 1998 at the University of Naples "Federico II". Postdoctoral fellowship in the University of Pisa and the Center for Italo-Germanic Historical Studies Isig-ITC (Trento).
Had enjoyed a four-year research contract from the University of Pisa. She obtained a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship at the European University Institute (EUI), and later she has been a Visiting Professor in the same institute. She has taught at the University of Siena and has collaborated with the Ecole Française de Rome.
She works on history of political and juridical practices, with particular reference to Spain in early modern Age, and on history of diplomacy in early modern Europe. She also studies political information and building of information networks, through the strategies implemented by the rulers in the processes of information control.
She has been a member of the Board of SISEM (Società italiana per la storia dell’Età moderna - Italian Society for the History of the Modern Age) from 2008 to 2012; Vice-president of the Board of the Italian Modern History Site, www.stmoderna.it. (2015-18)
She is member of the editorial board of "Dimensioni e problemi della ricerca storica", of the Scientific board of “Legatio: The Journal for Renaissance and Early Modern Diplomatic Studies” , of the Scientific Board of "Serie Histórica" of the Escuela Española de Historia y Arqueología in Rome (EEHAR), CSIC and of "Transferències 1400-1800" Universitat de Barcelona.
