Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she got her PhD in 1987 (Extraordinary Doctorate Award). Her research is comparative in nature and addresses the following topics: the «woman's song» in Latin and Romance poetry; Galician-Portuguese poetry and its dissemination on digital platforms; the manuscript tradition of the cancioneiros; the edition and study of the poetic corpus of troubadours; and the reception and influence of Provencal and French literature on Iberian literature. Additionally, she has examined intertextual linkages in troubadour poetry and the metrical qualities of cantigas. Throughout her career, she has been a visiting researcher at the following institutions and centers: Rome's 'La Sapienza', Coimbra's, Lisboa’s Universidade clássica, Milan's Università degli Studi, and Paris's Collège de France.

She directed the project Medieval Galician Literary Prose at the Centro Ramón Piñeiro para a Investigación en Humanidades from 1996 to 2014. (CRPIH, Xunta de Galicia). Since 2014, she has collaborated with Mercedes Brea to co-direct the Galician-Portuguese Profane Lyric project, to which the MedDB and PalMed databases are linked. In 2020, she was appointed Technical Director of the CRPIH's Literature Area. She has directed numerous research projects funded through competitive calls, in addition to participating in a COST action and the Interreg V-A program (0358-Geoarpard 1 E). She has been a dissertation supervisor for fourteen PhD students.

In 2005, she established the multidisciplinary Doctoral Program The Middle Ages. Images, texts, and contexts which received the Ministry of Education's Quality Mention (MCD2005-00241). Since 2002, she has served as the academic director at the USC for the European Doctorate in Philology and Criticism - Romance Philology Curriculum (a program coordinated by the Università degli Studi di Siena and involving the following institutions and universities: Milan, Pisa, Paris IV-Sorbonne, Collège de France, Fondazione Ezio Franceschini, Santiago de Compostela, and Zürich). Between 2012 and 2013, she oversaw the Doctoral Program in Medieval Studies and was in charge of degree verification. Additionally, she coordinated the Romance Philology Ph. D. Program from 2009 to 2016, awarded with a Mention of Excellence by the Ministry of Education (MEE2011-0660). She has been in charge of organizing the Romance Philology Research Group since September 2020 (designated as Competitive Reference Group by the Xunta de Galicia).

She has organized five international colloquiums and over twenty specialty seminars at USC during the course of her career. She has given various conferences and seminars at universities in Spain and abroad, as well as acted as a guest professor at a variety of courses and national and international conferences. She is a member of the editorial boards of several prestigious specialized journals in her field of study (Revue des Langues Romanes, Revue critique de Philologie Romane, Boletín Galego de Literatura, La Parola del Testo, Carte Romanze, L'Immagine Riflessa, Revista de Literatura Medieval, Revista de poética medieval, Revista de Filología Románica...). She is the editor of the 'Medioevo Ispanico' series for the Italian publisher Edizioni dell'Orso (Alessandria). Since 2007, she has also been a permanent member of the 'Centro di Ricerca su Testi e Tradizioni Testuali' at the University of Pavia and of the 'CiLengua Institute of Literature and Translation' since 2013.
