Thesis title: IL TEATRO DI GIUSEPPE FAVA . Analisi, recupero e studio del Fondo Fava

The philological study of Giuseppe Fava’s theater has allowed me to situate the playwright's work within the theatrical debate of his time and to reconstruct his role within the Italian landscape. The analysis of his drama clearly reveals how his poetics and theatrical vision reflect the political and artistic contemporary context that inspired his playwriting. In the first chapter, I examined the comedies and dramas of his early years and formative period, while the second chapter focuses on the texts written for the Teatro Stabile di Catania. Lastly, the third chapter analyzes independent productions, unperformed plays, unpublished works, and unfinished scripts, and the final chapter is dedicated to his last text and the annotated scripts. This work brings together the results of extensive research on primary sources, specifically those found at the Fava Archive in Gravina di Catania and Palazzolo Acreide, as well as documents preserved in archives and libraries in Catania, Rome, Genoa, and Paris. Consequently, this study represents the first unified analysis of all documentation regarding Giuseppe Fava’s theater, aiming to fill a historiographical gap in the field of late 20th-century theatrical studies.
