Research: Forms of Humanism in unhuman times: Understanding the ideas of responsibility and guilt in Vasilij Grossman’s work

Paola Ferrandi has a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Bergamo (2017). In 2020 she receives a double master’s degree in European and Pan-American Languages and Literatures and in Comparative Literature from the University of Bergamo and the Ruhr University in Bochum. Thanks to Erasmus and DAAD scholarships, she attended courses at the Universities of Saarbrücken, Ekaterinburg (UrFU), Bielefeld and Moscow (HSE). The focus on comparative studies is complemented by an interest in interdisciplinary approaches to literary studies, namely the correlations between literature, philosophy and history, and the history of ideas. Her master's thesis, Отражение еврейской идентичности в жизни и творчестве Василия Гроссмана (Aspects of Jewish identity in the life and works of Vasilij Grossman), supervisor Prof. Ugo Persi and co-supervisor Prof. Christoph Garstka, investigated how the Jewish theme is portrayed and serves as an indicator to evaluate the author's ethics and political attitude.
