More information The PhD in "Advanced Technologies in Surgery" is attended by Professors of 3 Departments, 1 of General Surgery, 1 of Urology, 1 of Otorhinolaryngology. The seminars, lessons and research activities are intended for PhD students in General Surgery, Urology and Otorhinolaryngology. Method of choosing the subject of the thesis The Academic Board of the PhD, in plenary session, on the proposal of the PhD Tutor, chooses the subject of the PhD Thesis, as part of the research project, conducted by the PhD student, within the research lines of the Department which houses the work activity of the PhD student. Admission to the second year During the academic year, the PhD student participates in the research activity, in the training activities of the Doctorate and carries out supplementary teaching activities. The PhD Academic Board evaluates the activities carried out by the PhD student and admits him to the following year only if the judgment is positive.

Method of preparation of the thesis During the course of the year, each PhD student who has been assigned a PhD thesis prepares the thesis by studying the scientific literature on the subject and collecting the clinical and experimental data needed to elaborate the thesis. Admission to the third year The Academic Board checks whether the PhD student has attended the training and research activities scheduled for the year, whether he has carried out research activity, documented by the co-authorship of scientific articles, whether he has held communications or reports at Congresses, whether he has carried out integrated teaching with the teachers, and only if the judgment is positive admits it to the following year.

More information For PhD students in General Surgery, a preparatory training course is provided for the most recent advanced technologies in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. For PhD students in Urology there is a preparatory training course for the most recent advanced technologies in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. For PhD students in Otolaryngology there is a preparatory training course for the most recent advanced technologies in minimally invasive surgery. Method of admission to the final examination At the end of the third year, the PhD students are evaluated by the Academic Board for the co-authorship of scientific publications, for the integrated teaching activity and for the training and research activities carried out during the year. Furthermore, the documents are sent to the External Evaluators for evaluation and only if the judgment is positive, the PhD students are admitted to the final exam. Final examination The final exam of the Research Doctorate is the discussion of the Doctoral Thesis before the Commission of Professors external to the Academic Board. The doctoral thesis must be written in Italian or English, structured as a scientific article (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and Bibliography) and make an innovative contribution to the state of the art.
