Research: The materialism of Sebastiano Timpanaro. An original and topical philosophical proposal

In my research, starting from the essays included in Sul materialismo (1970), I aim to investigate the elaboration of Sebastiano Timpanaro's materialism as an integration of Marxism and Leopardism. The aim is to verify how this conception of materialism is the beating heart of an organic, coherent and original idea and how, starting from his most famous critical works on psychoanalysis, in particular Freudian Slips - Psychoanalysis and Textual Criticism (1974), and from his reflections on language, an original methodological option emerges with respect to the scientific status of the human sciences. A proposal with at its center the role of passivity in human knowledge and of the corporeity of the human being as a natural being as fundamental ingredients to build an epistemological attitude consistent with Marxism, which claims to be an instrument of liberation of humanity from the exploitation of man on man. By comparing the work of Giulio Preti (Preti 2018) and Carlo Ginzburg (Ginzburg 1986) I aim to define the outlines of an epistemological option emerging from Timpanaro's materialism. In this direction, the results will be compared with the proposal of a naturalized epistemology in Willard Van Orman Quine in light of the shared belief by the two authors of the need to bring back the question of knowledge within the categories of science.
